It has only been three years since Maris Racal emerged from the Pinoy Big Brother house as runner up to Brazilian model Daniel Matsunaga.
But look at her now. The 21-year-old has not only embraced acting but has turned singer-songwriter, as well, with the release of her EP album Stellar.
The album is composed of five tracts with four written by Maris herself: “Tala,” “Ikaw Lang Sapat Na,” “Love is Easy,” and “Tayo na di Tayo.”
“Behind the songs are more on my emotions, and the problems that I’m facing at the moment. Na-inspire din ako sa mga artist na idol ko like Taylor Swift,” Maris confides to MB Entertainment.
The young star also shares that the music video of “Love is Easy,” aims to inspire everyone to embrace love without the barrier of gender and belief and should remind everyone that “love is free and love is for everyone”.
“Marami siyang pinanghuhugutan, hindi lang sa isang tao. There was one time na bigla na lang akong na-dissapoint sa lahat nang nangyayari kasi parang hindi naman dapat pinag-aawayan ‘yang love, dapat ito ay ine-enjoy at sine-celebrate. So ‘yung meaning niya is iba-iba, para sa mga nagmamahal na hindi pwede together, LGBT, and personal,” Maris further explains.
Maris openly admits that it’s not easy to create her own music. not everything is easy about it. And just like every artist, she also went through days were she couldn’t find the write words. “Hindi kasi yan basta-basta magra-ryhme na lang, or maganda pakinggan. Dapat per line mo may lalim, may hugot, and kakaiba. Mas mahirap pa ‘yun pag-a-arrange kasi, kunwari tapos na lahat and then, may iba ka pang gusto. Also [you should make] yourself different from all of the current artists nowadays,” Maris tells MB Entertainment.
The singer also expressed her aspiration to explore other music genres and to collaborate with another young talent, rapper Shanti Dope.
“Meron akong nasulat na very catchy na song and pop. Gusto ko may rap. So nung nakita ko si Shanti Dope, ‘Shanti, please mag-collab naman tayo.’ So sana mag-yes siya,” she says.
Maris will also perform at the upcoming Himig Handog finale night, giving life to the song “Sugarol” by Jan Sabili.
Despite her hectic schedule with music-related projects, Maris clarifies that she wouldn’t leave her acting behind, saying that it would always be her top priority.
Stellar is now available on all digital music platforms.
