Maine Mendoza finally reveals the result of her collaboration with international cosmetics brand MAC: the MAC Maker Maine Mendoza limited-edition lipstick, which is described as a muted peachy beige shade with a matte finish.
“We were given this opportunity from (MAC) global to collaborate with someone locally. We’ve never done this before,” shares Gay Lao of MAC Philippines.
She further adds, “Maine has been authentically using Mac even before joining showbiz. And people know of that connection because of the Ruby Woo (MAC lipstick shade) story. So for us, that was the main clincher. We decided then and there to tap her.”
The 23-year-old performer was then handpicked by MAC Philippines as the first Filipina to collaborate with.
From Woo to a subtler hue
It is no secret that part of Maine’s trademark look is her red lips. That is why it is such a big surprise to find out that instead of creating a vivid red MAC lipstick for her own, she decided to go the other way around.
“I wanted to keep it simple and sophisticated,” she admits. She also explains that she went for a more subtler hue because “I think majority of the Filipinos are fond of nude lipsticks kasi they want to keep it simple, not really flamboyant and loud.”
The collaboration is also a great opportunity to highlight the Filipina beauty.”
“We really wanted to celebrate Filipina beauty. Especially now in the Philippines, it’s such a good opportunity to really show everyone globally and regionally what the Filipina beauty looks like and I think Maine is the perfect epitome of that,” Gay Lao shares further.
Rams David, Maine’s manager, also points out that this collaboration is really something to be proud of. “It’s not just being part of MAC, but being the first Filipina to represent and to have the MAC line, to have the MAC shade. So it’s something to celebrate. Congratulations MAC and Maine!”
