They say there’s a first time for everything, and for Tom Rodriguez, Jasmine Curtis, and Miles Ocampo, the new film Maledicto is the opportunity they have all been waiting for.
In an exclusive interview with MB Entertainment, the three actors share their excitement in portraying roles that are not usually offered to them.
Tom, who has mostly played romantic leads, eagerly shares his thoughts in playing a priest.
“It’s so far from the characters I’ve done in the past. There’s an irony in it. Ang ganda ng juxtaposition. I am a clairvoyant and a skeptic priest, an exorcist na very pragmatic,” tells the 30-year-old actor.
This will also be the first for Jasmine to play a nun. It’s challenging role she gladly accepted since she feels that the story brings back that controversial twist that films in local entertainment has been lacking lately. “I think for a long time, we avoided telling stories about priests and nuns, konting-konti lang sila and it’s always the stereotypical way of portraying them. The last time we did something that is somewhat similar to this was back in the ’90s and ’80s na talagang horror including madre and the priest and the whole higher ups of the church,” says Jasmine.
Even Miles Ocampo, star of Home Sweetie Home, admits that her character is a complete turnaround from her usual “sweet” roles.
World Class Production
Aside from the unique characters on the story, another factor adding to the growing excitement of the actors is the high level of expectation from the companies who will head the film production, namely Fox Philippines, Unitel, and Cignal TV.
“They sold me with the production design. This time, I can honestly say na yung production set dito aims for what we don’t usually provide here,” shares Jasmine.
Maledicto opens later this year.
